Understanding Movement from Within
So often in movement classes or modalities we try to force both sides of our body to do the same thing, to move the same way. To correct movement patterns - looking at it from purely a muscle or skeletal way- but what if the way our body is holding and moving actually comes from a deeper place not just an imbalance.
What if the way your right shoulder is pulling away is an incomplete flight response - a time when you were trying to move away from something, to run and you couldn’t - our bodies not only hold these incomplete survival responses in our nervous system but also they can be held deeply in the way our bodies move. Constant muscle tension, jaw clenching, tail tucking, type of muscle tone.
Our physical body moves certain ways based on our nervous system states and ability to complete the survival response.
When we come together in our Embodied Movement Classes you are guided in a way to be curious to explore what is true for you in your body. It is not guided in a way where your body is supposed to be somewhere or do a certain thing or be even on each side - but a place of wondering if you move in this way what is there for you- are you met with resistance or ease, what if instead of pushing through you paused and stayed present with what is there - maybe some of those incomplete survival patterns have space to complete, to release. To shift even our muscular system from the inside out.
