Healing is not Linear

We often think of healing as this continual and constant betterment or progress, but healing is not linear. Oftentimes things will get messier before they feel much better, especially if we have been living in a freeze state numbing and dampening our emotions. As we start to come back to life we will need to give space for what was repressed or ignored.

So we titrate, slowly working from the outside in, showing up in as much of it as we have capacity for with the aim of being present with it and not losing ourselves in it. And at times it may feel more circular or like a spiral than a straight linear progression, but can you notice that you have the capacity to hold more than you did before? That something that’s similar happened and you don’t feel like you have been taken out at the knees, yes it’s still painful but you can still show up in the world and for yourself. That is an incredible difference in quality of life, and resilience.

That's the beauty of this work.
